


| In September 2006 new laws regarding child seats were introduced. They are as follows... All child restraints - Baby seats, child seats, booster seats and booster cushions sold in the UK must conform to United Nations Regulation R44.03. This should be clearly marked on the restraint. The restraint should also be suitable for the child's size and weight. And it must be fitted according to the manufacturer's instructions. Children under 3 years old. Children up to the age of 3 may travel in the front or the back of a car - but they must use the correct restraint. It is illegal to carry a child under 3 years of age in the front of vehicles that are fitted with passenger seat air-bags. The safest way for a child under 3 to travel is in a rear-facing baby seat in the back of the car. Children aged 3 - 12 Children from the age of 3 until their 12th birthday may travel in the front or the back of a car - but they must use the correct restraint. This may be a child seat, a booster seat or a booster cushion. A child under the age of 12 but more than 135cm in height, MUST use the adult seat belt. It is the DRIVER'S responsibility to ensure this happens. Children over the age of 12 12 & 13 year olds MUST use an adult seat belt. It is the DRIVER'S responsibility to ensure this happens. From the age of 14, a young person MUST wear an adult set belt. It is the YOUNG PERSON'S legal responsibility to do this. |
