Pentireglaze,
New Polzeath,
& Polzeath

At low tide these three wonderful beaches
merge into one huge area of soft sand - often
referred to as Hayle Bay.

Pentireglaze Haven is a small cove at the
north-eastern end of the group. It offers some
degree of shelter when the wind is from the
north or the east.

New Polzeath and Polzeath are huge beaches
with tons of space for everyone.
The water here is very clean - these are
European blue flag beaches.
They are also superb surfing beaches.
Lifeguards patrol here in summer.

Note: If you are staying in Padstow, these beaches are
on the "wrong" side of the estuary. To reach them by
car you have to drive inland to Wadebridge.
Daymer Bay

Daymer Bay is tucked into the Camel estuary and sits
alongside the spectacular St Enodoc Golf Course.

Daymer Bay is a sheltered beach with almost no surf,
making it an ideal beach for young children to build
sand castles and splash around in the shallow water.

However, because Daymer is in the estuary, it can
experience some fairly strong currents when the tide
is in full flow, so this is not an ideal beach for
swimming out of your depth - exercise caution!

St Enodoc Hotel
Longcross Hotel

Note: If you are staying in Padstow, this beach ise on the
"wrong" side of the estuary. To reach it by car you have to drive
inland to Wadebridge. Alternatively, take the foot-passenger
ferry from Padstow to Rock.
Rock

Rock beach is located directly across the River
Camel from Padstow. The famous Blacktor Ferry
chugs back and forth from Padstow throughout
the day -  carrying foot-passengers only. If you
want to drive to Rock you have to drive inland to
Wadebridge and back out again.

Rock Beach is a lovely, mile-long stretch of soft
sand, backed by dunes, making it an excellent
place for building sand-castles and sunbathing.
This is also a popular spot for wind-surfing and
many other water sports. There is very little swell,
and no surf at all! So the water is crystal clear.

The village of Rock is frequented by the rich and
famous. There are some interesting shops, fancy
boutiques, and upmarket restaurants here, but
this is no place to look for bargains!

St George's Well, Tregirls Cove
and Hawkers Cove

A stunning stretch of coastline just northwest of
Padstow - and on the "right" side of the estuary!

These three lovely beaches link together at low
tide, and are within easy walking distance of
Padstow Harbour - along the beautiful coast path.

Each of these beaches has its own charm, and all
of them should be on your short-list if you are
visiting the Padstow area.

St Goerges Well is often fairly busy - because it is
closest to Padstow.

Tregirls Cove sees fewer visitors.

Hawkers Cove is the nicest, and the least busy of
the three.
Treyarnon

Treyarnon is one of the finest beaches in  Cornwall.

Located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, it
is also one of the Britain's cleanest beaches.

The coast path here is utterly spectacular.

Lifeguards patrol the beach in summer.

There are also several wonderful rock-pools for
children of all ages to explore. Some of them are big
enough for swimming - and on a sunny day they warm
up nicely!

This is a safe swimming beach - except for the areas
close to the rocks, where strong rips can occur.
Trevone

Trevone is a lovely beach close to the delightful
Trevone Village.

The beach is soft sand, sheltered by high cliffs
on one side and rocky outcrops on the other.

There are lots of small "mini-bays" here, which
provide shelter and privacy for family picnics etc.
Harlyn Bay

A nice family-friendly beach. Over half a mile of
sand and shingle, backed by sheltering dunes.

Excellent surf - especially during rough weather.

Good facilities at Harlyn Village.
Mother Ivey's Bay

A very pretty, very isolated, lovely sandy beach.

There are no facilities and no parking here,
so visitors must walk along the coast path from
Harlyn Bay (around 15 minutes).
Constantine Bay

A beautiful, desolate bay in a very exposed position.

A wonderful place for experienced surfers.
Novices, however, should exercise extreme caution.

Constantine Bay is beautiful - but it has its dangers.
The beach shelves steeply at high tide, so the water
gets very deep, very quickly. There are submerged
rocks, powerful swells, and strong currents here, so
swimmers can easily find themselves in difficulty.

Lifeguards patrol here in summer, and visitors
should only swim within the patrolled areas.

Despite its dangers, Constantine Bay is popular with
visitors, and the car-park (which is tiny) fills up fast.
There is more parking half a mile up the road.

Can be surfed at all stages of the tide, and all times of the year.
Definitely one of Cornwall's best surfing options.

Booby's Bay

A beautiful beach with nice sand and
spectacular views towards Trevose.

At low tide, Boobys Bay merges with the much
larger Constantine Bay.

At mid tide Boobys Bay becomes a small cove
in its own right. But at high tide it vanishes
completely beneath the waves.

The picture here shows Boobys Bay in the
foreground, with Constantine Bay beyond.

The rocks in the centre of the picture can
create a powerful reef break at mid tide.

But they can also create some dangerous rips,
making both beaches unsafe for swimming
close to these rocks. Exercise caution!

Surfing info: There is virtually no surf at Daymer Bay.
Surf info: Constantine Bay is very exposed and offers strong beach breaks at all stages of the tide, and a
powerful reef break at mid-high tide. This is definitely not a place for novices - especially the reef break!
Watch out for submerged rocks at the line up.

Surf info:  Fast right hand break off the rocks to the north of the bay and a good peak in the middle of the
beach, with lefts and rights.  Waves here are fast and fun! Suitable for intermediate or experienced surfers.
Surf info:  When the swell is big, and the wind is from the south-west (as it often is) this horseshoe
shaped bay provides the best surfing in the area - including fast, hollow waves in the middle of the beach
