| There is something about the Bude & North Cornwall Golf Course that reminds me of St Andrews. Maybe it's the way it starts in the middle of town, with shoppers, and office-workers and holiday-makers wandering by. Maybe it's the clock tower overlooking the course. Maybe it's the fact that the golf course was here first - and the town grew around it. Or maybe it's the feeling that this place was put here by nature - to be a golf course! Golf belongs here! There is no doubt about it! Bude is a truly wonderful place to play golf. The club was founded in 1891, when the town of Bude was just a few scattered buildings. Bude is now a thriving seaside town - but golf is still the most important tourist attraction here. This is not a place for disco-dancers, penny-arcade-gamblers and all-night ravers. This is a sedate, sophisticated, elegant resort - where the golfer is king. Having said that, it should be made clear that Bude is not an expensive place to stay. Golfers can lodge in cosy hotels and guest houses for just a few pounds a night. Bude is also blessed with a superb selection of restaurants. This is a wonderful, welcoming, safe seaside town - perfect for a family hoiliday. And it is one of golf's best kept secrets. |
