| Army hero John Dunbar is offered any job he wants. He chooses to man a remote army outpost, where he will be alone with his thoughts - and will be able to see the frontier before it disappears forever. During his lonely vigil, he gradually befriends a pack of wolves and spends time playing with them. The local Indian Tribe, viewing his antics from a safe distance, give him the name "Dances With Wolves". Over time, he befriends the Indians too, winning their trust, adopting their ways and finding love. But when trouble erupts between the Indians and the army, he is reminded that he is still a serving officer and he is forced to choose sides. This epic drama unfolds slowly, but it is never tedious or dull. Kevin Costner's performance is cool, controlled and confident. It takes a great actor to handle a role like this - it would be easy to panic and try too hard! But Costner is perfect! Dances With Wolves won seven Academy Awards, and was deservedly hailed as a masterpiece. |
