| When his wife and son are brutally murdered by pro-Union "Kansas Redleg" soldiers, peaceful Missouri farmer, Josey Wales, joins a ragamuffin gang of confederate rebels, and becomes The Outlaw Josey Wales. At the end of the war, Josey's friends surrender and are mercilessly gunned down by the Union Army. Josey, who refused to surrender, tries to save them, killing dozens of Yankees in the process. Pursued by Union troops and bounty hunters, he goes on the run, reluctantly rescuing "strays" along the way - an elderly Indian Chief, a squaw, a self-righteous Kansas granny, a young woman, and a mangy dog. With his newly acquired "family" he makes his way to Texas to start a new life. A minor skirmish with some renegade Indians, led by the fearsome Ten-Bears, is eventually settled amicably, and things appear to be going well for Josey Wales - until the Kansas Redlegs track him down. Unwilling to go on the run again, and finally facing the men who murdered his wife, he decides to make a stand. |
| This movie has it all! A great story line, compelling performances from a very talented cast, a great script and a superb soundtrack. It's a roller-coaster ride for your emotions! You'll be angry, sad, afraid, amused, and touched by the characters and their stories. Clint Eastwood has been quoted as saying that this is his favourite movie. |
