"I must face a man who hates me, or lie a coward in my grave!"

It's Marshall Will Kane's wedding day.
He has just married a pacifist Quaker, Amy (Grace Kelly) and is planning to retire and leave town at the end of the day.

But the Miller Gang has arrived, and they have a score to settle with Marshall Kane.
He sent their leader, Frank Miller, to the gallows - but Miller didn't hang. He has been released from jail and is due to arrive on the High Noon train,
hell-bent on revenge.

The townsfolk want Kane to go, to avoid trouble. And his bride threatens to leave without him if he stays, but he hates the thought of running away.

As the clock ticks relentlessly towards High Noon, Kane tries to enlist deputies to back him up. But no man in town has the courage to face the Miller
gang. Only Kane's former mistress, Helen Ramírez (Katy Jurado), stands by him, but she is no gunfighter.

Time is running out. The tension builds. This is a fight that Marshall Kane can't win. If he stays he will lose his bride and he will surely be killed.
If he leaves, he'll lose his self-respect - he'll be a coward!
He desperately wants to live (he's just married Grace Kelly!) But Marshall Kane is a man of honour - and he just can't bring himself to run away.

A train-whistle moans in the distance. The clock ticks again. It's almost  High Noon!
