Crackington Haven is the perfect choice for that peaceful, slow-paced, relaxing Cornish getaway.
Crackington Haven beach is a joy - offering a broad expanse of soft sand, plenty of rock-pools, and some excellent surf.
Lifeguards patrol the beach in summer.
Dogs are not allowed on the beach during the summer - from Easter to October.
Along the edges of this beautiful bay there are towering cliffs and enormous boulders to provide shelter if it's windy.
There is a nice pub, The Coombe Barton Inn - right on the beach, as well as two small cafes/shops, and some public toilets.
The pay and display car-park is a short, level walk from the beach.
The scenery around Crackington Haven is among the most spectacular in Cornwall, and there are some fabulous walks along the coast path.
The short walk up Penkenna, the cliff to the north-west of the beach (face the sea and it's on your right) is particularly recommended.
Longer walks include the coast path to St Gennys (onwards from Penkenna), and in the opposite direction, the coast path to Strangles.
Both walks offer spectacular coastal scenery. The path is steep in places and the walking can be strenuous - but well worth the effort!
There are also some excellent walks through the local countryside - but be warned, most walks around Crackington Haven involve steep hills.

At the top of the village (known as Higher Crackington) The Crackington Institute regularly hosts craft-fairs and other events.
Higher Crackington is also home to the award winning Harvenna Stores - our local village shop and post office.
If you are staying in local self-catering accommodation, stocking up at Harvenna Stores is highly recommended.
Crackington Haven Beach and Penkenna Cliff. When the tide is out, Crackington Haven beach offers a broad expanse of soft sand, and
plenty of space for everybody. The beach is patrolled by lifeguards in the summer. Dogs are not allowed on the beach.
There are some nice rock pools for the children to explore, and the surfing here is excellent.
The walk to the top of Penkenna is not too strenuous - and well worth the effort.

The spectacular Strangles Beach. It's even more spectacular when the tide is out!
Not an easy beach to get to - the path down is very steep - but if you make the effort you will probably have the entire beach all to yourself!
There are no facilities here - this is a rugged, isolated place - so bring a picnic and spend the day getting back to nature!
Strangles is an excellent place for wildlife. Sea birds nest in the cliffs, seals relax on the rocks - and in late spring the basking sharks arrive!
Seeing a basking shark, up close and personal, is a truly amazing experience. Can you imagine a fish as big as a bus!
